Laxman Basnet, General Secretary of SARTUC personally met Minister Pradeep Gayawli to request to hold SAARC Summit. It was emphasized that Nepal should take initiations to organize the Summit as being the chair of SAARC.
Mr. Banset said because of delay in holding SAARC summit many important issues related to workers are not being moved forward. The 14th SAARC summit passed the issues related directly to workers however it is not yet implemented. As a result all the workers of the region are facing numerous problems. Thus, Nepal should play an effective role of mediator to make SAARC Summit happen.
As a response to the request put forward by Mr. Banset, Minister Gayawli said that being the chair it’s the responsibility of Nepal to be the mediator so that it benefits the entire region.
The last SAARC summit was held on 2014. The summit was scheduled to be held in Pakistan on 2016 which could not take place because of the conflict between India and Pakistan.
