Kathmandu SARTUC with the support of International Trade Union Confederation–Asia and Pacific (ITUC-AP) organised an "Awareness Raising Campaign on Minimum Standards and Migration Issues, and Formalizing Informal Economy". Mr. Bishnu Rimal, President of SARTUC Nepal Cahpter, chaired the program. Mr. Laxman Basnet, SARTUC General Secretary was also present during the program. Leaders of Nepali trade unions (Mr. Khila Nath Dahal, President of NTUC and Mr. Ganesh Regmi, General-Secretary of ANTUF) and guests from civil society (Mr. Hari Sharma) spoke during the opening session. In theopening of the program, the speakers spoke about the importance of the program and to set the minimum standards for Migrant workers in South Asia. The program participants were from the three major trade unions of Nepal- ANTUF, GEFONT and NTUC. Mr. Hari Sharma from Social Science Baha, presented a paper and made aware the participants about the development of SARTUC Colombo conference. In his presentation, He talked about the SARTUC Position on Labour Migration, Minimum Standards for Migration, and Model Standard Employment Contract. In the second session, Mr. Som Luitel from People Forum presented a paper on the SAARC initiatives on migration issues and agenda 21. During the Program Mr. Asim Bhattarai from CESLAM and General-Secretary of SARTUC, Mr. Laxman Basnet spoke about the MOU between inter-region (SARTUC, ASEAN and Arab TUC) and MOU between NHRC Nepal and Qatar.
