Regional Conference for Coordination and Policy Development on Migration

Kathmandu, Nepal SARTUC was successfully completed the Regional Conference for Coordination and Policy Development on Migration

South Asian Regional Trade Union Council (SARTUC) was successfully completed the Regional Conference for Coordination and Policy Development on Migration in Kathmandu, Nepal on 29-30 May 2017. Participants from trade unions of 6 countries was participated in this conference namely: Afganistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri-Lanka. A two-day Regional Conference for Coordination and Policy Development on Migration was organized by SARTUC. This program was successfully completed with 25 Trade Unions representative from six countries. This conference was a part of the advocacy strategy which aimed to stimulate the representatives of the respective Trade Unions about the related latest happenings and developments of Trade Unions activities in the region. Through the presentations and group works the participants were provided with the updated information and were also tasked to contribute recommendations which could possibility forwarded to Colombo Process and Global Compact. The participants were sensitized and encouraged to create pressure to their respective Governments for the rights of the workers. It is expected that the representatives will follow up with their Government in regards to Zero Draft prepared by SAARC with the continued flow up of SARTUC. SAARC member states will be highly equipped with the Government support which will be advantageous during collective bargaining with the countries of destination. The participants appreciated the exposure and the platform of the conference where they could interact, exchange information and knowledge among themselves.
